General Information
ATTENDANCE: If a child is absent from school, parents are expected to provide a written explanation for the absence when the child returns to school. This meets our legal obligation as well as being a matter of courtesy.
No child may leave the school grounds without the written permission of the parent and the approval of the Principal. Classes commence each day at 8.50 a.m.
BUS ARRANGEMENTS: Children who travel to school by bus are expected to maintain a high standard of behaviour. When a child is to vary their usual travel arrangements, they must notify staff of this at morning assembly when the bus roll is marked. A bus pass (written request) is necessary for any child wishing to use the bus service when visiting friends. These can be obtained from the Office.
BANKING SERVICE: Commonwealth Bank, Hopetoun offers the school their banking service. Application forms are available at the school office upon request. Bank day is each Tuesday.
ENROLMENT POLICY: The Catholic Education Commission of Victoria encourages all Catholic parents to seek a place in the Catholic School for their children in accordance with their duties to do so.
2021 Fees and Levies: Family Fee: $860.00
Levies: Student Fee: $220.00 per child this covers provision of materials used in all curriculum areas in the school.
HEALTH & SAFETY: Every effort is made to maintain safety within the school however, in the event of an accident, injury or illness, the parent or emergency contact person will be called. It is therefore imperative that the Emergency Medical Information is up to date. It is expected that no child will be in attendance while suffering from an infectious disease – vomiting, diarrhea etc. It is advisable that families are members of the Ambulance Service, as the school is not responsible for costs incurred if the ambulance needs to be called. The School Nurse attends to the medical examination of all children in their Prep year. Other children will see the nurse if the teacher and parent wish a referral to be organized.
LUNCHES: Children can purchase their lunches on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Lunches are supplied by the Bow Bakery.
Price lists are sent out at the commencement of the year and any price changes are notified throughout the year.
Children are asked to have their lunch order written out clearly outlining their name, order and money. This should be placed in the lunch order basket. The correct money is necessary for lunch orders. There is a fridge, microwave and pie warmer available for the children’s use.
NEWSLETTERS & NOTICES: It is our practice to send home both the school newsletter and notices with the eldest child in the family attending St. Joseph’s. These notices concern school functions, meetings etc. Accounts, details of excursions and sporting events are also circulated in this manner.
Newsletters are sent out each Wednesday during the year, enabling all to have a clear understanding of the week’s activities. Term dates are also issued early in the term so that families can make the necessary commitments to the school without it interfering with a myriad of other commitments. Individual letters to parents are sent out when necessary, so it is advisable to check with your child each night.

ENROLMENT POLICY: The Catholic Education Commission of Victoria encourages all Catholic parents to seek a place in the Catholic School for their children in accordance with their duties to do so.
- The intellectual capacity of the child seeking a place in a Catholic School should not be a criterion of entry.
- Whilst the degree of faith commitment of the child’s parents is a relevant consideration, it should not normally be the criterion for enrolling a child in a Catholic School.
- Children should not be excluded from Catholic Schools because their parents are unable to pay school fees.
- Enrolment of disabled children is made in accordance with the Catholic Education Office documents on the integration of the handicapped.
- Only children who will be five years of age on or before April 30th of their commencement at school may be enrolled.
- It is imperative that the Emergency Medical Information Form be filled in comprehensively so that the school is aware of any possible factors that should be taken into account in the education of your child.
- Enrolment of non-Catholic children should be made according to the policy of the Catholic Education Commission:
- Non-Catholic children may be enrolled where class sizes are within acceptable limits.
- They may be enrolled when the Parish Priest and Principal are in agreement on the enrolment.
- They may be enrolled only after an undertaking by the parents that the nature, life and identity of the school will be represented..
